CASE STUDY & SUCCESS STORIES

Name: Vinit

Age: 27 years

Sex: Male

BMI: 27 (overweight)

Location: USA

Profession: Software engineer

Case History: Vinit was an overweight child who became obese in grade 3 as he grew older. At 27 he was 126 kgs, is a young professional who had tried various diet techniques to lose weight. He lost some weight before but could not sustain it since it was unrealistic for his lifestyle and routine. He gained all the weight back and felt more lethargic. He ended up hogging and eating more. He could not be consistent and lost the willpower since it needed to align with his schedule and needs. His blood reports depicted slightly elevated fasting sugar levels and HbA1c of 6.3%. He was looking to achieve a sustainable weight loss and lifestyle which manages his overall health and well-being.

Approach by the best weight loss nutritionist in Hyderabad, Telangana, India:

By analysing his dietary recall, we saw that he liked soft eating food like dal rice, sambar rice, and curd rice. We also noticed that he ate quick-digesting, easy-to-eat and well-cooked foods like porridge and khichdi. His diet was not adequate in protein and fibre. He used to eat heavily processed meals during the evenings. He ate quite frequently from outside. Therefore, the first step was to coach him on the impact of soft eating food on weight gain, hunger, and cravings. Vegetables were being avoided in his meals. There was no major fruit consumption. All his meals were rich in simple carbohydrates. Apart from that, his meal timings and portion size needed to be more consistent and smoother. Such eating patterns and behaviour caused an imbalance in insulin spikes, hormone functioning and metabolism, leading to difficulty achieving sustainable weight loss. We started by correcting vitamin deficiencies through food and supplement so that it does not come in the way of his weight loss journey. We educated him on different food groups, low GI foods, fibre and protein and its effect on the metabolism and regulation of glucose levels in the body. During the discussion, we also found out that he chews food very fast and takes less time to finish his meals. Hence, we explained to him the brain connection simply and how important it is to chew and eat foods mindfully for better digestion, nutrient absorption and optimum metabolism. We designed a meal plan with customised macronutrient composition as per his body type and health goals. We increased the protein content in his diet slowly to avoid any digestive issues. Since he is a vegetarian, we gave him vegetarian-based proteins such as hemp milk, cheese, tofu, hung curd, paneer, and a personalised protein shake. Since he was not fond of eating, we incorporated vegetables in fun ways, such as tikkis, stir fry, soups, etc. Complex carbs were met by suggesting quinoa, hand-pounded rice, and sourdough bread. We gave him meal-prepping tips so that he does not miss out on any meals and avoids eating from outside. Constant support and guidance was provided.

Results:

With our guidance and support, he eats a balanced diet and lost 13kgs in just three months sustainably without losing any muscles. He learned to be mindful while eating out. His energy levels and water intake improved significantly. He has started enjoying vegetables and making his own salads without motivation or guidance, and his other eating patterns have improved.
