CASE STUDY & SUCCESS STORIES
Name: Praneeth
Age: 38 years
Sex: Male
BMI: 22.8 kg/m 2
Case History: Praneeth has been suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) for almost 10 years which started when he was in USA. Due to irregular food timings and prolonged work stress his digestive issue started getting aggravated resulting in fluctuating pains, unpredictable & untimely washroom cycles. The sudden pain and the unpredictability of washroom cycles impacted his daily productivity at work. He would require to carefully plan his days. His stress levels further increased because he was not able to identify the foods that were causing the untimely and uncertain washroom cycles. Living with the
constant “fear of the unknown”, further restricted his movements and overall social life contributing to additional stress in his life. His IBS condition got even worst due to COVID 2 years back, which greatly impacted his overall health & well-being. His frustration further intensified as he had consulted many medical specialists who were unable to give him any relief from his condition.
Diagnosis by best clinical nutritionist Hyderabad, Telangana India: Past history, blood reports, dietary recall and lifestyle choices. Blood reports suggested severe Vitamin B12 deficiency and in our conversation with him, he didn’t know the foods that he should eat and avoid for his IBS condition.
Treatment by best clinical nutritionist / dietician in Hyderabad, India: We asked him to seek medical advice for his severe Vit. B12 condition and initially gave him a limited list of foods that we were sure would not trigger his condition. We thereafter introduced the “IBS – green list” one at a time and in small portions to ensure there were no requirement of sudden visits to the washroom and increased the portion slowly and steadily after careful monitoring. Once there was comfort with the green list, we slowly started introducing the red list of foods to his daily diet so that he could identify the triggers if any. We also gave him foods that improved his B12 naturally in order to strengthen his digestive health. Along the way we also introduced prebiotics & probiotics in his daily diet to improvise his overall digestive system. The meal plan given was suited to his palate, and convenient for him to prepare at home.
Results: At the start of the program, he would have 4 – 5 washroom visits and didn’t know about the trigger foods. After following diet for a couple of weeks, his washroom cycles reduced from 5 times to 2 times a day. Both the washroom cycles occur before breakfast, which makes it easier for him to plan the whole day. He is more comfortable in attending social events now. He had a clear understanding of his limited and few trigger foods. He is now able to tolerate more food items which he had difficulty in tolerating earlier like bell peppers. He started feeling more energetic, his bloating completely vanished and feels lighter after consuming meals. He enjoyed his recent foreign trip as he was able to tolerate all the foods and there were no disruptions or surprises during his journey. His overall anxiety has reduced and his overall productivity at work improved significantly. This has given him a lot of ease as he is finally able to be in-charge of his 10-year old IBS condition.
