CASE STUDY & SUCCESS STORIES

Name: Saritha

Gender: Female

Age: 45

Profession: IT manager

Location: Hyderabad, India

BMI: 36.7

Case History: Saritha, who is an IT manager, was suffering from grade 3 obesity. Being in a stressful profession, her dietary habits and lifestyle were all over the place. She stress ate because of her ongoing employment worries, which led to the development of hyperinsulinemia. Moreover, she had a love-hate relationship with food, which was affecting her weight. She wanted to lose weight and control her dietary habits but lacked motivation and support to bring a change in her lifestyle. She wanted the right motivation and guidance to change her mindset regarding eating and lifestyle habits.

Approach by the best weight loss nutritionist, Hyderabad, Telangana, India: After having a discussion with her we found out that she was very reliant on caffeine. She used to drink four to five glasses of coffee every day, which made her acidic. She also did not get enough protein, which increased her hunger during the day and led her to nibble, snack, and eat fried food for evening snacks. Her dinner was late and often led to late night snacking while watching TV to relieve her stress. Her inconsistent eating habits disrupted the regulation of her metabolism and insulin. She was anaemic as well. She also led a sedentary lifestyle. Our first course of action was to persuade her to drink less coffee and instead go for flavoured teas like green tea or jasmine tea when she felt the need for caffeine. This also helped her in controlling her acidity. We analysed that her connection with food was irregular. She used to feel guilty every time she ate at a restaurant, even if it was occasionally. She used to deliberately limit her meal intake the next day. She would either punish herself for the food she ate or overindulge in it. Her eating habits were causing her weight and health to spiral out of control. This made her feel uneasy when she was around food. To control her food-related behaviour, we taught her about mindful eating, how to enjoy food without feeling guilty, and how thoughts impact behaviours, especially when such attitudes are rooted in diet mentality.

We also counselled her on lifestyle patterns that contributed to increased weight. We taught the notion of weight gain in relation to elements such as age, metabolism, stress, mindful eating, meal order, water consumption, nutritional deficit, hormonal shifts, and sustainability. We made her understand the significance of enjoying the weight loss journey, which aids in realistic weight loss.

We incorporated vegetable salads, fruits, vegetable soups, vegetable curries to increase dietary fibre. We included vegetarian sources of protein like paneer, tofu, whole dals, and hung curd. We also included a customised protein drink that she could easily enjoy in the office to help her obtain enough protein and other microminerals. To control her body's insulin levels, complex carbs like quinoa, brown rice, and green rotis were added to her diet. To increase iron absorption, green leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, dates, and super-seeds paste were recommended.

We assisted her in implementing a few lifestyle adjustments, such as engaging in physical activity and eating at the right times. She received ongoing encouragement, support, and advice so that she could adhere to and support her new healthy eating habits.

Results:

She lost 7kg in 3 months and 10 kgs in 6 months with minimal physical activity and has been able to sustain it for over 2 years now. She was no longer caffeine dependent, and she could get through the day with just one cup of coffee in the morning. Her energy levels increased, as did her hunger. She now recognizes the significance of mindful eating, healthy eating, and overall health care. When her relatives from the United States visited her recently, they went out to eat at various restaurants, and she felt comfortable being around so much food; she could eat without feeling guilty, and she enjoyed the pleasure of eating food. Her mindful eating habits helped her in losing weight, improving her relationship with food, and improving her insulin and iron parameters.
