Case History: Durga, a young female software engineer, was suffering from obesity and was trying to lose weight through various fad diets such as all millet diet, portion control diet. When she came to us, she was on jowar millet diet where she consumed 2 millet rotis thrice a day with dhal and curry. There were so signs of weight loss nor she was feeling energetic. She did not get her periods for 4 months. She was struggling with weight loss and PCOD and hence approached us. She was desperately trying to lose weight before her marriage.
Analysis by the best clinical nutritionist:Past history, dietary recall and lifestyle choices. Her blood reports showed that she was prediabetic with HbA1c of 6.5 with normal insulin. She had high normal WBC indicating inflammation. Her vitamin D and B12 status was also low. She had hypertrophic obesity. By looking at her dietary recall we identified protein deficiency.

We recognised that she was completely protein deficient and her current all carbohydrate diet was converting to fats in the body though she was on limited calories. We suggested her good quality protein sources and healthy fats like chicken, whole eggs, fish, yoghurt and portion of whole dhals to eliminate her protein deficiency. We gave her traditional vegetables with easy to follow recipes that were available in her locality to help her manage both work and health comfortably. Only home cooked meals with locally grown vegetables and food was given. We asked her to include locally grown fibre rich fruits like papaya, pomegranate, etc. which also provided good quality micronutrients. We asked her to avoid processed, refined foods and high sugar fruits to prevent raise in sugar levels. We asked her to go for out of comfort zone walks for 45 mins in the morning and evening. All the foods that were included helped her balance her hormone levels. We monitored her diet and sleep schedules and modifications were made accordingly. Constant support and guidance was provided.
Results:
With our help and support, she lost 5kgs within a week. She started physical activity. She got her periods within 15 days after she started on our diet without any medical intervention after 4 months. A balance in her hormone levels was seen. In 40 days, she lost 10kgs. She was able to maintain her lost weight through her wedding schedules and also post her marriage. She was able to follow her meal plan even while traveling and socialising. Her washroom cycles and energy levels improved significantly. Her hunger levels became normal. She is now onto her next phase of her weight loss journey. She aims to lose another 15 kgs and sustain the weight lost.
