Stress Can Be a Huge Contributor to Spiked Sugar Levels – by top dietitian in Hyderabad

CASE STUDY & SUCCESS STORIES

Name: Rina Agarwal

Sex: Female

Age: 34

BMI: 33, overweight

Diagnosis by top dietician in Hyderabad: Specific blood reports to diagnose other health related illness, dietary recall, and lifestyle choices

Symptoms: Fatigue, irritability, disturbed sleep cycle due to stress

Issues: Rina had uncontrolled diabetes. She was taking high doses of medication and her fasting blood sugar levels were at a disturbing 250-280 mg/dL. Due to personal issues at home, her mind was preoccupied and stressed leading to disturbed sleep.

Rina had hunger cues that struck her repeatedly and she need to control. She believed that if she controlled her hunger levels, it would improve her diabetes and help her lose weight. But she binge-ate a lot of high-calorie, empty-nutrient comfort foods later at night. She also felt that if she ate late at night, nobody would see her and therefore not pass any judgments. The stress and guilt of binge eating caused her considerable irritability and a lot of fatigue which further increased her blood sugar levels.

DIABETES & STRESS

Treatment: We started with counselling sessions. The first step was to empathize with her on her situation. She believed that nobody could understand her situation at a personal level. Her hunger pangs were totally understandable and there could be no judgement whatsoever.

Deepika explained to her the vicious cycle between starving and bingeing, and how she could use fasting and feasting to her advantage. We showed her simple strategies to eat comfort foods without increasing her sugar levels. Additionally, we did a couple of stress releasing energy sessions to relieve her of her stress. We could impress upon her the need to remain stress free as they impacted her health significantly.

After 3 sessions, without any structured nutrition plan but with a few strategies to help enjoy her favorite foods guilt-free and at the most appropriate times and in ideal portions, her fasting blood glucose levels dropped down to a wondrous 120 mg/dL.

Results: Within 2.5 months, she was able to cope with stress better, her relationship with her husband and her in-laws improved substantially, and her fasting sugar level lowered to 120 with minimal medicines. She happily lost 7 kgs of weight and 3 inches of her abdominal fat. She gradually was able to normalize her sleep through the night without disturbance; which otherwise, would keep her awake until about 3 - 4 am every night.
