Sustainable weight loss and improving eating habits are possible along with managing work

Case History- Sana is a 34-year-old working mother software professional whose in-laws stay with her. She was diagnosed with high blood pressure at a young age, so the doctor advised her to lose weight. She had previously seen a lot of dietitians. Still, she was unable to adhere to their diets as they made many changes to her current meals, which she found cumbersome to adhere to given her responsibilities and, therefore, was quite sceptical about starting another nutrition-related regimen. She also found some of the food items given in those plans challenging to procure, over her budget and unpleasant to the taste; therefore, she could only keep up with those diets for up to 15 days. Even if she followed some of the diet plans suggested, she lost only 2 kgs in a couple of months.

We analysed her nutrient consumption during the day. We made it easy for her to prepare nutrient-dense meals by keeping the current food items consumed at her home with modified portions and adding other food groups like protein and fibre to make it a balanced meal. In order to prevent her from compromising her health later when cravings set in, we made alterations similar to her comfort foods. We also met her nutritional needs by giving her nutrient-dense products from our kitchen. Optimum efficient protein was incorporated, like hemp, tofu, and homemade paneer. Healthy fats were given, such as nuts and seeds. Lots of greens and veggies were given in fun ways such as soups, salads and stir fry. We advised her on appropriate food choices and portion sizes so she could have fun while still maintaining her health throughout travel, celebrations, and Sunday outings. Constant support and guidance were provided to her.



Results- Sana, for the first time in 5 years, lost 7 kgs in 2 months! Her blood pressure medication also reduced as her BP slowly and steadily reduced. She found our program to be sustainable, significantly improving her mood and energy levels. She was surprised that she maintained her weight despite travelling and attending family gatherings, which she could never do. Till date, she has been balancing her family and work life without worrying about her health.
