CASE STUDY & SUCCESS STORIES
Name- Maanvi
Age- 49 years
BMI- 28.7 kg/m2
Profession-Homemaker
Location- Hyderabad
Case history- Madhavi, a 49-year-old homemaker, struggled to find a healthy and sustainable way to lose weight. Her frequent travels to the US, Europe And other parts of India made it challenging to lose weight. Her personal profile also required her to have an active social life in India. Her blood reports suggested prediabetes with high HbA1C despite normal Fasting Blood Sugars, indicating under-functional beta cells. Additionally, she suffered from protein-deficiency malnutrition and high inflammation in the body, with HsCRP scores of 11.27. She was looking for a healthy and sustainable lifestyle which would help her lose weight, given her hectic lifestyle and also promised overall health.
Approach by the best online nutritionist/dietician in Hyderabad, India- After analysing her dietary recall, we noticed that her meals were random without any adherence to timing. She was also eating significantly less as she would feel full very soon. Due to her weak stomach, she eliminated most protein sources from her diet. Her meals consisted mainly of refined carbohydrates such as idli, dosa, upma and fruit juices to give her energy. Additionally, there was a lack of vegetables in all of her meals. We also discovered that she was experiencing constipation, which was causing her loss of appetite and skipping meals. As a result, her overall food intake for the day decreased, ultimately slowing her metabolism and hindering her weight loss progress. She also had a constant craving for sweets.
Furthermore, she planned a series of international events in the subsequent months. To address these issues, we initially focused on enhancing her digestive system and helping her adopt a more nutritious eating routine by incorporating superfoods such as dates, omega-3 seeds and a portion of fruits into her breakfast with an egg on the side. This is a light and well-balanced meal that would rev up the metabolism at the start of the day and, at the same time, ensure that she would feel slightly hungry for the next meal 3.5 – 4 hours later. Given her high inflammatory marker, we included anti-inflammatory proteins in all her meals: free-range eggs, mutton (grass-fed), deep sea fish, tofu and farm fresh hung curd. We also recommended incorporating daily physical activity into her routine. Once she became accustomed to this new routine, we discussed changes and options she could consider while on her trip. Since she enjoyed coffee, we suggested healthier variations and advised her to avoid sugar in the morning. As many salad options are available in the US, we recommended looking for burrito bowls and monitoring vegetable intake in all meals, along with protein. Consuming chicken instead of red meat in the US is preferable. We also suggested that she enjoy indulgences, such as desserts and high-carb meals, when her body’s metabolism is optimal. A sumptuous low-calorie dinner followed this to help her balance calories to ensure sustainable weight loss. We asked her to complete her last meal before 7:30 p.m. We educated her on choosing healthier options while travelling and eating in hotels. We have a list of items she could easily carry, such as shakes to maintain consistent protein intake, date seed cubes to improve digestion, omega supplements to reduce inflammation, multivitamins to avoid deficiencies, and healthy snacks to avoid junk food. Finally, we provided her with a handy document containing guidelines she could refer to at any time. Constant support and guidance were provided.
Result- After only one month on the program, she managed to maintain her weight while travelling and even lost 1.5 kilograms while enjoying her holiday. Over the past six months, despite multiple international trips, domestic travel, festivals and marriages in her close contact sphere, she has lost 6 kgs. She has gone down by two sizes, demonstrating significant fat loss. Additionally, her constipation issues disappeared, her appetite also improved, and she has learned how to balance her meals. She is embarking on her second trip this year, and we have provided her with numerous options to explore while maintaining her health and weight.
