You can reduce weight sustainably despite travel and other social engagements

Case History:Aneesh,a corporate executive with an IT firm approached us for weight loss and improvising his lifestyle. He had no past medical history that he was aware of. He wanted a clear approach which helped him in managing his nutritional deficiencies.


Analysis by best clinical nutritionist: Past history, dietary recall and lifestyle choices. His blood reports showed that his HbA1c level were 6.8% with high normal liver enzymes and severe inflammation. His Hs-Crp was as high as 22. His iron levels were also low considering he is a male who is a non-vegetarian and had severe Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D deficiencies.


Approach by best clinical nutritionist / dietician, Hyderabad, India: We analysed his food diary and saw that his diet consisted of largely refined carbs such as food like idly, poha, toast in his diet which was causing cravings, snacking through the day and lethargy. He is a non-vegetarian by birth but over a period of time, due to various reasons, his consumption of traditional sources of protein that his body is used to from birth such as fish became very occasional. His diet was also lacking essential vitamins and mineralswhich reflected in his reduced iron levels and poor gut health further impacting his energy levels and increasing his lethargy at work.. We educated him regarding meal timings, balanced diet and correct food portions. At the start of the program, it was quite difficult for him to stick to the plan but by continuous follow ups and review calls he started managing all his meals. We introduced wholesome foods, protein like fish, eggs every day into his food intake. Having consistent home protein like fish can be quite challenging for a corporate executive. We therefore gave him easy to execute option for consistent protein every day. Since he has a poor gut health, we have him gut health enhancing food like probiotics such as curdhemp milk etc.. We further suggested him to include dates, seeds and hemp milk in his diet as they help in soothing the gut and are a great gut healer options. We ensured he consumed a diversity of vegetables every day and helped him with execution methods that would make it convenient for him to prepare her meals. We further included essential omega 3 fatty acids in his diet which help in absorption of nutrients in the body and boosts immunity and reduces inflammation in his body. We also helped him in planning the meal options while travelling as his profession required lots of work trips.



Results: After following the program consistently, he was able to see significant improvements in his energy levels. He was able to lose 15 kgs of weight and was finally see his weight in a double digit and that too even after attending multiple events and work trips. Further, his Hba1c level reduced from 6.6% to 5.9% without medications. His inflammation which reflected in extremely high Hs-CRP score of 22, reduced to 3.5 in 3 months. His liver profile was back in the range. His iron related parameters also improved considerably and he was able to sustain the weight lost despite continuous travel.
