You will always be pre-disposed to diabetes if you have had Gestational diabetes.

CASE STUDY & SUCCESS STORIES

Name: Priya

Age: 43 years

Country: USA

Case History: Priya has a family history of diabetes as both her parents were diabetic. Priya first came to us when she was in her 4th month of pregnancy when she found out she has gestational diabetes. As per medical advice, doctors suggested she check her sugar levels 4 times a day.

We worked with her through her pregnancy and provided her with a diet plan based on the NIN recommendation for pregnant women, which was approved by her endocrinologist in the US. Once her sugar levels got regulated, we gave her a plan with balanced health and pleasure food, so that it doesn’t spike her sugar levels & she can enjoy it at the same time. She delivered a healthy baby and maintained her fasting sugar level at less than 95mg/dl & post-prandial at less than 120mg/dl without any medications.

After 8 years of her delivery, she began to experience headaches, fatigue, and disorientation. Later, she went for her routine medical check-up, and she was in extreme shock to realize her diabetes had shown up again, with HbA1c at 9.5.

Approach & analysis by the best female diabetes dietitian in India: In our initial consultation call, we encouraged her to go as per the doctor’s advice to take insulin and focused on her diet to manage her sugar levels. We gave her home-cooked foods which were cell wall intact carbs, low GL foods, balanced proteins, and healthy fats. We provided her with a diabetic-friendly meal plan focusing more on soluble fibre & diversity in vegetables in a way that she enjoys.

To reverse diabetes, we asked her to perform short, effective physical activities daily that are suitable for women with multiple responsibilities in the US, such as strength training and HIIT workouts.

Results: Within the first 3 months, her endocrinologist withdrew her insulin injections as her HbA1c levels dropped to 5.6 & doctors were truly happy with the results.

Even after 5 years, she has sustained her sugar levels without any medications.
